In Kiziba Refugee Camp in Rwanda, 845 young children are receiving weekly porridge support through Community Raise Echoes (CRE) as part of our commitment to strengthening early childhood development, education and supporting families in the community.

The program, launched at ECD Amizero Kiziba, was created in response to a basic but important need identified within the school community: ensuring that young children have access to nutritious food while they learn and grow.

Why Porridge Matters

For young children, nutrition and education are closely connected.

When children come to school without having had a morning meal, it can be harder for them to remain focused, participate in classroom activities, and fully benefit from their learning experience.

Through conversations with school leadership and community members, CRE identified porridge as a practical and meaningful form of support for the children.

Every week, children receive porridge at school, creating not only a meal opportunity but also a moment of care, dignity, and encouragement.

Supporting 845 Children

The program currently reaches approximately 845 children at ECD Amizero Kiziba.

For CRE, the number 845 represents more than a statistic. Each number represents a child with dreams, potential, and a future worth investing in.

Our goal is to provide this weekly support consistently and help create an environment where children can focus on learning, playing, developing essential skills, and building healthy relationships with their peers.
